Our 2-day Lake Manyara & Ngorongoro Crater safari packages were designed to offer visitors, with a time constraint, a short but a very intense Tanzanian Northern Circuit wildlife safari experience. You will experience the excitement of an African wildlife safari, or even a photographic safari in two of the most spectacular national game parks in Tanzania.
This unforgettable African safari tour will take you to the Ngorongoro Crater, featuring one of the highest concentrations of game in Africa. Here you will witness an amazing spectacle of African wildlife – inside a self-contained world, teeming with animals. Your tour will also take you to the Lake Manyara National Park, one of Tanzania’s most dramatically located wildlife areas, consisting of a shallow but huge soda lake, at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The size of both the selected Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater national parks, make them a perfect choice for our shorter safaris, or a photographic safari.
This is a suggested or sample Tanzanian safari itinerary – it can be adapted to suite your own personal needs and preferences, to any seasonal changes or to migratory animal movements. As with all our African safaris, we have offered you a wide variety of accommodation options – directly impacting on the total safari costs – in order to offer you the widest possible tour budget options. Please note that there is no accommodation available inside the Ngorongoro Crater National Park.
Please do not hesitate to contact us directly, should you require any further assistance or more detailed information, regarding any of our safaris, tours, travel and other trekking packages.
You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to the hotel in Moshi town. This day you will meet your guide who will brief you on your upcoming trip
Pick up at 07:30 am from your hotel in Moshi/ Arusha and transfer to Tarangire NP – spend your day on a game viewing experience; then transfer to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Tarangire is best known for its elephant viewing. A wide range of other grazers frequent the part’s red-dirt plains, which are studded with ancient baobabs and buttressed termite mounds, and bisected by the palm-lined Tarangire River. Meanwhile, a checklist of 550 bird species ensures that Tarangire is often rated as the top ornithological destination on the northern circuit. The least celebrated of the quartet of reserves that comprise Tanzania’s peerless northern safari circuit, the 2,600 sq km Tarangire National Park stands at the epicentre of a semi-arid migratory ecosystem ten times as large.
The park comes into its own when the dry season kicks in, and the nomadic herds of game that normally range across the vast Maasai Steppes congregate in the vicinity of the Tarangire River, the region’s only perennial water source. For most visitors, the dense elephant population is the main attraction – especially during the dry season, when aggregations of several hundred can be observed at the river.
Others are Wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala and hartebeest all cramming into the area during the dry season. Tarangire is the one place in Tanzania where the stately fringe-eared oryx and rubber-necked gerenuk are seen with any regularity. Large carnivores are less visible than in some national parks, but Tarangire’s lions and leopards are often seen lounging in trees, revealing their presence with a telltale tail twitch. Tarangire’s impressive bird checklist is headed by the endemic ashy starling, rufous-tailed weaver and yellow-throated lovebird, and is also notable for a wide range of raptors.
Dinner and overnight as per the standard and type of accommodation option requested.
Depart early in the morning heading to Ngorongoro Crater, the UNESCO’s World Heritage and one of the 7 Wonders of Africa! Engage on an unforgettable game drive in the crater floor; The largest intact caldera in the World. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most densely crowded African wildlife areas in the world and is home to a permanent population of more than 30,000 animals inhabit a mere 260 km² (100 square miles) in the 600 m (2 000 ft) deep crater, including some of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhino making this one of the few places in Africa where guests stand a great chance of seeing the entire Big Five in the course of a single game drive.
The Ngorongoro National Park supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park is the dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever- elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot.
After this beautiful half day then we are leaving in early afternoon for your transfer back to Moshi/ Arusha where you can spend an extra night or drive straight to the JRO Airport to catch your evening departure flight where we will end our African safari adventure.
